A slender stemmed willow which is great for basketry work and sculptures.
The growing rods are a striking dark red/purple colour with small dark green oval shaped leaves. Once the leaf has dropped the rods have a pink/red tinge. When dry, the top section of the willow turns a purple/dark brown. The dark rods can be mistaken for a foraged willow.
Brown (dry) willow requires soaking and mellowing to make it pliable.
Willow is sold by weight. Approximate number of rods per kilo; 3ft - 510 rods, 4ft - 250 rods, 5ft - 120 rods, 6ft - 70 rods
