A heavy duty 1000 gauge soaking bag which, with careful use, can be re-used time & again.

6” wide/2mtrs long up to 250g (equal to a small handful) up to 5ft willow
10” wide/ 2mtrs long up to 2kg of up to 5ft willow

Black Maul is a supple and versatile willow. The willow isn’t black – it only takes on a black hue when steamed. Black Maul is held in high regard by weavers and is one of the best varieties of willow to use in beginners basketry.
Much of our farmland is used to grow Black Maul. Brown (dry) Black Maul willow requires soaking and mellowing to make it pliable.

Natural barked willow is placed in boiling water for several hours. The tannins are released turning the rod a toffee colour. The bark is then stripped and the rod left to dry.

Long willow rods suitable for weaving hurdle fence panels, in situ fencing, roundhouses and wattle panels. Rods require soaking and mellowing to make pliable. 100 - 140 rods per bundle.
2.5 - 3 hurdle wads are required to make a 6ft x 6ft (1.8m 1.8m) hurdle panel. Each dry hurdle willow wad weighs 6.5kg.
