Black Maul Brown (Dry) Willow

Product description

Black Maul is a very high quality basketry willow. This variety is suitable for weavers of all abilities. The longer the rod, the thicker it will be. A 6ft rod is around the same thickness as a pencil.

Brown (dry) willow requires soaking and mellowing to make it pliable.

Black Maul can be boiled and stripped for buff rods, stripped of its bark when in full leaf to produce white willow and steamed in a boiler to turn the rods a deeper colour.

Willow is sold by weight. Approximate number of rods per kilo; 3ft - 210 rods, 4ft - 155 rods, 5ft - 85 rods, 6ft - 65 rods, 7ft - 40 rods, 8ft - 25 rods, 9ft - 20 rods
