Black Maul Brown (Dry) Willow – Second Grade

Product description

Black Maul brown willow from the 2023/2024 crop. Due to weather conditions, it did not dry as well, and some rods are hail damaged.

This variety is suitable for sculpture, fencing and craft projects for weavers of all abilities.

We do not recommend using it for your best baskets.

The longer the rod, the thicker it will be. A 6ft rod is around the same thickness as a pencil.

Brown (dry) willow requires soaking and mellowing to make it pliable.

Black Maul can be boiled and stripped for buff rods, stripped of its bark when in full leaf to produce white willow, and steamed in a boiler to turn the rods a deeper colour.

Willow is sold by weight. Approximate number of rods per kilo; 3ft - 210 rods, 4ft - 155 rods, 5ft - 85 rods, 6ft - 65 rods, 7ft - 40 rods, 8ft - 25 rods, 9ft - 20 rods
