Product description

A practical and comprehensive guide to working with willow, from growing and harvesting through to sorting, soaking, preparing and using rods for basketry. Over 3oo pages, full colour A4 landscape.

Drawing on the knowledge and experience of Musgrove Willows alongside more than thirty-five years of teaching traditional crafts, the book brings together practical advice on willow varieties, preparation, tools, techniques and care.

With detailed photographs throughout, it is designed to help both newcomers and experienced makers better understand the material they work with.

More than simply a guide to basketmaking, this is a book about willow itself – how it grows, how it behaves and how to get the very best from it.

Rachel Hutton is a professionally qualified teacher, basketmaker and willow tutor. Originally trained as a woodwork and metalwork teacher, she has spent more than thirty-five years teaching traditional crafts and basketry throughout the UK.

Rachel has taught basketry at Musgrove Willows for over a decade and is also behind much of the practical information found in our Help & Advice pages, blog and video tutorials.
