Bodkins are used for splitting stakes for basket base slaths and expanding willow to create holes for threading or cramming off in borders.
Select the size that matches the willow length and width you are using for the specific basket. For example, if you are using a 5ft base stake, you will probably want an 8mm bodkin. The larger the bodkin, the larger the basket.
The majority of basket makers use an 8mm (for small baskets) or 12mm (for shoppers, etc.) bodkin.
