Sophie Courtiour

We are all deeply saddened by the loss of our good friend Sophie Courtiour.

Sophie was an incredibly creative and hard-working lady, and worked with us for over 15 years tutoring in our willow workshops. Patient and talented, she introduced many people to the joy of willow weaving and guided them as they created their own willow creations.

Sophie’s willow sculptures were easily recognisable and she wove numerous installations throughout Somerset, including the Leaping Deer on the A303, The Beast of Exmoor, and The Green Cathedral at the Long Meadow, Taunton.

Sophie also spent many years working with Lipizzaner horses and her love and understanding of these stunning creatures was reflected in her willow work. She had a unique ability to capture form, muscle structure and movement.

She loved travelling, Salsa dancing and even built her own home. She was an extraordinary talent and will be hugely missed by us all.
