Willow Backpack (2 Day)

Product description

Learn how to make a backpack or shopping trolley using beautiful willow & simple yet elegant weaves.

You  will learn how to:

• make the base using the Catalan method
• stake up
• whale using a pull down wale
• control shape at upset & as you work
• use French rand & 3 rod wale to form the main body weave
• create ‘packing’ in weave
• shape the top & border off using a 5 behind 2 border
• cut, punch & rivet the leatherwork for the straps
• for those with more experience/who weave quicker we will weave the lid & attach with leather buckle & hinges, for those who work slower/with less experience we will have an open topped backpack or have the option to produce a leather lid (additional cost of £10)
• trimming & tidying the basket

Perfect for intermediate/advanced weavers only who have made numerous baskets on their own & have good control & weaving speed.

Please note:

• this course is physically demanding & you need a good degree of manual dexterity.
• This course is very intensive & there is a lot of work to be done over the 2 days.

What do I need to bring?

Glasses (if you need them for close-up work).
Notebook and pen if you wish to make notes, but e-notes and links will be sent after the workshop.
Old clothes, covered, flat shoes (no sandals or open toes), something to tie hair back with (if needed).
