Find out more about planting your own Living Willow Structure

Making your own Living Willow structure can be highly rewarding and now is the perfect time, as we recommend planting between January and early April.

Here at Musgrove Willows we offer a range of willow for living structures, willow for landscaping, soil erosion and willow for adding something special into your garden. Living Willow is available from January through to March and April 2016. Living willow courses are also ran here and are very enjoyable.

Caledendron willow rods are very unique and rather striking due to their colouring of red, purple and brown bark, this type of living willow can make any willow projects look quite spectacular.

Flanders Red is a willow often used for many projects as the rods are very waxy skinned, the rods also vary in beautiful colours from green to red at the tip. This type of living willow can easily grow up to a staggering 9FT and often even longer. Flanders red is excellent as a living willow, it can often be used for bank revetment projects or for soil erosion. Due to the fact that this type of willow is very hardy it is brilliant at being used for fencing such as wicker fencing panels and traditional willow hurdles.  This type of willow can also be used for basketry projects.

Hybrid Disease Resistant Variety 1 is a rod that was bred in Sweden, it is a warm brown rather smooth rod which is surprisingly slim for its length, this type of living willow proves to be very satisfying for all living willow projects as it is highly disease resistant and it is also very durable in many varied soil conditions. However this willow is not recommended for chalk and very free draining soils.

Hybrid Disease Resistant Variety 2 which is also a Swedish bred rod is very thick stemmed, and has a furry feel, this makes an ideal living willow to use for children’s projects for schools etc. as it can be used to create domes, tunnels, and play areas, not only will children enjoy spending time making these projects whilst being educated about the willow, but they will also get hours of endless fun afterwards! This rod is stouter than Hybrid Variety 1.
